Emmy-nominated filmmaker Cecilia Peck is drawn to telling stories of individuals who have the courage to stand up for what they believe in, often against all odds. She directed and produced the Netflix Original feature documentary Brave Miss World (2013), the story of a young Israeli beauty queen, unashamed to speak out about rape, who fights to put a serial predator behind bars and becomes a global advocate for other survivors.
Cecilia also directed and produced the Academy Award shortlisted documentary Shut Up & Sing (2006), which tracked freedom of speech under the Bush administration through the eyes of country music superstars the Dixie Chicks. She produced A Conversation with Gregory Peck (1999), a portrait of her actor and humanitarian activist father. As an actress, she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her performance in The Portrait (1993), and played the leading role in Torn Apart (1990), among others. She performed with the Martha Graham Dance Company in American Document, the last ballet choreographed by Miss. Graham.
As a public speaker, Cecilia travels with historian Claudine Stevens to present the program Gentleman’s Agreement: Hollywood’s Stand Against Anti-Semitism, an in-depth, personal look at her father’s involvement and all of the forces at play in bringing the groundbreaking 1947 film to the screen. Cecilia also leads Speak Out sessions for survivors of rape and assault at universities across the country in conjunction with the #IAmBrave screening series for Brave Miss World. With actress Mary Badham, who played Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), Cecilia presents a program entitled Growing Up With Atticus, an evening of stories and film clips about To Kill a Mockingbird, her father, and the film’s indelible impact.
As an activist, Cecilia runs www.bravemissworld.com, the largest website in the world serving survivors of rape and assault, with over 7,000,000 visitors. She also created and manages the website http://www.gregorypeck.com, the hub for information about her father’s social justice and humanitarian legacy. A graduate of Princeton University, Cecilia has served as contributing editor at Premiere Magazine (French edition) and Moving Pictures Magazine. She has also been a member of the jury at the Aspen Shortsfest. Her company, Rocket Girl Productions, produces independent documentary and fiction films.
Cecilia resides in Los Angeles with her husband Daniel Voll and their two teenage children.
