Three minutes of film: the last remaining footage of the Jewish inhabitants of Nasielsk, Poland before the Holocaust. Courtesy of Neon.

So long as we are watching history, history is not over. Three minutes of footage, shot by David Kurtz in 1938, are the only moving images remaining of the Jewish inhabitants of Nasielsk, Poland before the Holocaust. Three Minutes: A Lengthening (2021) explores the human stories hidden within the celluloid.

Indiewire raves: “[Three Minutes] is a remarkable glimpse of Jewish life before the Holocaust. Fascinating. Electrifying. An invaluable document and a humbling memorial.” PJFM is honored to present an exclusive, sneak preview screening of Bianca Stigter’s riveting documentary Thursday, August 25, 7 PM at PFS Bourse Theater. The film will continue to play at the theater into the week after.

Three Minutes is co-produced by Academy Award nominee Steven McQueen (12 Years a Slave), narrated by Helena Bonham Carter, and Official Selection of last year’s 30th Philadelphia Film Festival. The film also premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, and Sundance Film Festival and won the Jury Prize for Best Documentary at this year’s Atlanta Jewish Film Festival. It is rated PG for “thematic material involving the Holocaust.”
