HERE WE ARE
Directed by Nir Bergman
Sponsored by Larry and Cindy Rappoport
Anchored by powerful performances by Shai Avivi and Noam Imber, HERE WE ARE is a heartfelt tale of a devoted father emotionally unprepared to let go of his autistic young adult son.
Aharon (Shai Avivi, Losing Alice), a divorced graphic designer, thinks he knows what is best for his son, Uri (newcomer Noam Imber). Adhering to a daily routine that favors security over independence, Aharon has groomed his son for a simple life, relatively unfettered by stress and anxiety. That is until Uri’s mother shows up with some surprising news – the boarding facility she’s been tirelessly pursuing for years has an immediate opening for him. Looking to his father to avow his every decision, Uri inquires if moving to a new home is what he wants. Aharon’s answer thrusts the pair on an impromptu road trip, leading to an unexpected journey of self-discovery and a fair share of growing pains for father and son.
Filled with humor and tenderness, award-winning director Nir Bergman’s beautiful family drama was officially selected for the 2020 edition of the Festival de Cannes and nominated for 10 Ophir Awards (Israeli Academy Awards).
