Directed by László Nemes
Historical Drama | Hungary/UK/USA/France/Germany | 2025 | 132 min | Hungarian with English Subtitles

Set in 1956 Budapest, after the uprising against the Communist regime, a young Jewish boy, Andor, raised by his mother with idealized tales of his deceased father, has his world turned upside down when a man appears, claiming to be his true father. Directed by Academy Award-winning director László Nemes (Son of Saul) and based on his own father’s coming-of-age amidst political turmoil, Orphan premiered at the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival before being selected as Hungary’s 2025 Oscar entry for Best International Feature.
