Ms. Maly Jackson is an Ethiopian Israeli who emigrated to Israel by walking for more than three weeks from Ethiopia to Sudan. With her mother, baby sister and countless other Jews from her native village in Gondar, Ethiopia, they fled the religious and political strife that threatened the lives of Ethiopian Jews. The trek across the desert and forest landed her family in a refugee camp in Sudan. Their lives were at risk due to the horrific conditions they were exposed to while waiting to be rescued.

Jackson’s story recounts her arduous journey as her family, friends and she fled Sudan on an Israeli Air Force commissioned airplane, “Wings of Eagles”, which landed in Israel in December 1984. She met her husband William, who was serving in the United States Navy, while his ship was deployed to Israel.
