What do the 80s, baseball, and cowboys have in common? Thursdays at the J! Presented by Philadelphia Jewish Film and Media (PJFM) and Kaiserman JCC, this film series will show three delightful, family-friendly films outdoors at the JCC every other Thursday night, beginning July 14 – August 11. After a short hiatus, PJFM is excited to bring this superb film collection to Philadelphia moviegoers and could not be happier to be partnering with Kaiserman.

  • THE GOONIES
This 80s cult classic takes us on an action-adventure for the ages. In the misty “Goon Docks” neighborhood of Astoria, Oregon, a group of kids embark on a riveting escapade to find the long-lost treasure of fabled pirate One-Eyed Willy. With its “Spielbergian” vibe and unforgettable debuts from actors Josh Brolin and Sean Astin, The Goonies is an unforgettable throwback to the fun, thrill, and nostalgia of being a kid.

  • HEADING HOME: THE TALE OF TEAM ISRAEL
This PJFM alumnus film follows Israel’s national baseball team as they compete in the World Baseball Classic. From Israel to South Korea, this inspiring film takes viewers on an unforgettable trip around the world as the team, comprised of Jewish American Major League players and their Mensch on the Bench mascot by their side, become more connected with their Judaism along the way.

  • JEWS OF THE WILD WEST
One may not necessarily associate Jews with the emblems of the American Wild West; cowboys, horseback riding, saloons with their usual swinging doors. In Jews of the Wild West, viewers are presented with a long-forgotten, unheard of chapter of American history: the efforts and accomplishments that thousands of Jews made in shaping the Western frontier. Who knew, for example, that Broncho Billy Anderson, considered to be Hollywood’s first celebrity cowboy, was Jewish? Who knew that even Golda Meir herself, the famed prime minister of Israel, lived in Colorado? With incredible archival footage and interviews of present-day relatives of the little-known “Jews of the Wild West,” this remarkable debut from director Amanda Marshall Kinsey is a testament to the historic achievements Jews have made throughout all parts of America.
